My Mission Cyrus 2 Amplifier has died, well, the little light still
comes on, but no sound comes out.

What I'd like to know is, can anyone recommend a good (UK) repairer, or
is it worth me sending it back to the manufacturer to get it mended.

Also, if I am to send it back to the manufacturer - is it Mission, or Cyrus?

Look inside & you will find 2 fuses on the circuit board , these usually
perish after a while . Replace these & all will be well again hopefully.

If they blow again you obviously have a fault & it will need to go back to
Cyrus , NOT Mission . Bear in mind that a service will be around £100 , the
amp might not be worth that to you unless you treasure it .

Thanks for your help - I'll open it up tonight and have a look.

As for the 100GBP service charge - well, it is cheaper than a new one,
and, although I don't treasure it, it is a pretty nice amp.

....and you'll struggle to find something as good for £100 - apart from
maybe another Cyrus 2 on ebay. One went for 98 quid last week

Well, I put new fuses in there (thanks for your help on that one), and
they blew straight away...

The speakers made a 'mmm' noise for about a second before everything
went quiet. A second lot of fuses blew - even with no speakers or CD
player plugged in.

Is there something else I could try - I'm not averse to using a
soldering iron to replace other parts.

Was it both speakers that made the noise? If so, you almost certainly
have a power supply problem. That is fairly easy, because it contains
only the transformer, rectifier and smoothing caps. By judicious
disconnection, you can check out the diodes and capacitors for correct
operation with a multi meter. If the transformer is dodgy, then you
should probably bin the whole amp.

I don't know where in the circuit the fuses lie, but whatever the
problem is, it will be downstream of them.
