Could somebody explain how to dismantle (or at least to access) the
laser pick-up system in that Meridian model (located in the disc drawer
itself) so I could check it and change the settings.. If some setting
values are known it will be helpful, as well as any similar experience.

It is not clear from the above what the actual cause may be.

Might be that one of the servos responsible for tracking/focussing aren't
working well.

Might be the laser output reducing.

Might be the sensors.

Might be 'something else'... ?

It may be useful to try cleaning the objective lens if you have not already
done so. Beyond that I'd recommend asking Meridian. They serviced my old
200 drive a few years ago, and did a nice job of ensuring it worked well.

Slainte,

Jim

Default MERIDIAN 506 CD player

I own since years a CD player Meridian 506, of the first 16 bits
series, and still enjoy the sound of the player on my system.

Recently, I observed signs of "weak" detection of the digital bits
trough the laser pick-up, making the starting of the reading sometimes
difficult with some CDs.

Could somebody explain how to dismantle (or at least to access) the
laser pick-up system in that Meridian model (located in the disc
drawer itself) so I could check it and change the settings..
If some setting values are known it will be helpful, as well as any
similar experience.

Thanks in advance for any help.

clean the lens with a photographic lens cleaner.

That was of course already tried, but with no positive effect

I've just had my Meridian 206B serviced by Meridian (of all people
for £100. It still doesn't always read track 1 and skips to track 2
and starts from them - you can then go back to track 1 with no problem.
I guess its just something inherent in my player than shows up on some
CDs.

I suggest you enquire about getting your unit serviced by Meridian,
they'll give a quote before committing and it shouldn't be too
expensive, certainly cheaper than buying a replacement unit (206s are
going for £200+ and 506s much much more)
