Looking for bass sound that makes people feel squeezy or irritated

Use an audio editor to halve the playback speed of your favourite bassy tracks, or just to generate sine waves at 15 to 30Hz. How would I do that? What programmes can I use that are shareware? Google for Goldwave.. found something called "NCH Tone Generator" that might do the trick, Goldwave appeared to be far to complex for a layman ... Jens |

That's an urban myth [1]. High frequencies can cause headaches however. [1] http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/episode/episode_02.html, Episode 25. well I didnt think they would need nappies. high pitch seems good too, 9514,91 Hz is nice at full volume. Basically, I am moving out of my apartment due to irritating neighbours above, I'd like to irritate them as much as I can during the last two weeks. Any other clues? Old buildung, wooden floors, the enemy is above. ;) Jens |

Tool - Expression Evaluator - Presets - Waves - sine,f=Hz Type the frequency you want in the f field and click OK. Or if you want a sweep from frequency f to x in one minute, type sin(2*pi*t*(f+(x-f)*t/120)) and put values into the f and x fields. -- Eiron |

The problem is finding a speaker that will generate decent levels at low frequencies although I found that while tuning a bass-reflex cabinet, less than 1v at 20Hz across a 4ohm driver was nauseating. You could use a Harley with drag pipes at tickover. -- Eiron Not very scientific Go and see a band called sunno))) play live. I felt like Darth Vader was using his force choke on me. They've been reported as causing spectators to run to the toilets with loss of bowel control on several occasions and most people who go to see them say that their eyeballs vibrate at some point during the gig. Doesnt sound very healthy. :-) Regards |

I tested the high pitch sound that even at full volume doesnt justify to be called "noisy" such as a rock band, it'll probably get really annoying after a while to hear an omnipresent "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" that you have no idea where it comes from. My flatmates cat definitely hates it even when at the other side of the flat. |

It will wake them up but not be easy to determine where it comes from. - if possible you could stay over with some friend and leave a tape with a chanting on, perhaps you could ight some candles to put in the windows as well. Remove the curtains while you are at it. If your neighbours asks about it say you were out to visit some relatives/sleeping over in your new house too tired from reapir/cleaning to make it home and let a friend use the apartment that evening. - Play some polka, or other ethnic music loud while you are out, play reggae when you are in. - Also if you pass your neighbours outside tell them that you will be doing some repairs in the next hours and when you are baning away at some random pieces of wood (oddly enough all connected to the ceiling - hold a piece of wood up to the ceiling and bang the end close to you) ocasionally resort to a loud scream, dropping it all on the floor, making loud cursing and crying noises. After 10 minutes commense again. Next day do not wear any bandages. If neighbours ask if you were hurt ask them what they mean, if they then say you said you were going to make repairs and sounded as if you got hurt tell them they must be mistaken as you spent all afternoon looking for the right nails and should be putting them in this afternoon/evening. Smile at them if they stare. Also if they ask to lend your tools for half an hour or so, make sure you put a little fresh blood on both the business ends and the shafts of the tools. Doesn't have to be human, just fresh. if they ask you something about that say these are the tools you usually lend out. But that ocasionally you do not get these back cleaned, in fact last time you had to go to the landlord of the friend who lend them as he went to jail and you needed the tools for anothe friend. - Make up some more stuff. Hopefully you will never see them again so it doesnt hurt to leave them wondering. If it all fails you can safely says the people upstairs drove you nuts. Or that you were given poor advice onm usenet. Whichever appplies the best. If your neighbour asks you about funny noises you say you heard nothing, slept like a log, and that you cannot be interested in finding out as you are moving soon. If they ask why you move, say that the people upstairs are iritating enough to make you want to move. Mikkel |

Owain Invite a drugdealer to use the apartment, after they get settled call the cops on them. Repeat ad nauseam. Do call the cops at night for best effect. - better d this once you have a buyer for your apartment... ;) Watching cowboy movies with extra soundeffects is also a hit. If you find you need some more hands to make the noise, make a videonight. If your place is nearly empty ask people to bring a seat, and rent a videoprojector to view it on your wall. (That last bit makes you not wanto to unpack your pictures, frames and painting in your new place, if you happen to pick up a videoprojector.) Also an empty apartment makes for a lot of noise so you should probably all have cotton in your ears so you can up the noise without going deaf yourself. (Do remember to gallop to the kitchen for cold refreshments) Mikkel |
