BBC Proms Radio 3 - relentless stutter
1. davemaschine Aug 10, 11:28 am show options
Newsgroups: uk.rec.audio
I have been listening to a number of the Proms broadcasts from Radio 3,
through dialup/Real Player, etc. and/or BBC Radio Player. Results of
all of what I describe below seems to have been about the same through
both media.
Except for an occasional stutter and break, nothing enough to seriously
interrupt the flow of musical thought, I tuned into these for a little
over a week with no problem. Starting about two or three days ago, I
get a constant stutter, alternating with playing the broadcast at a
conspicuously low volume level, with either no stutter or minimal, then
for it to come on full blast again, stuttering at full volume over the
music.
Again, I had no serious problem with listening, or enough to complain
about until just the past several days, and I had been listening to the
Proms for nine or ten days up until then.
Is anyone else tuning to these broadcasts experiencing the same problem
as I? Please speak up, if so. If I am alone in experiencing this,
which I doubt, please email me if you know the solution to the problem
- . I am very anxious about this because I have been
looking forward to the Metzmacher/Cascioli broadcast tomorrow, and
would like to be able to clearly hear it tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Can't say I've had any problems. It might be a large load on the BBC's
server or some other net bottleneck somewhere.
Send a mail to they are usually quite helpful unless
your having a go at them about DAB bitrates .
Take it you can't listen direct then?......

If Dialup means you connect via telephone line,
you must expect data breaks (very much rarer
when connecting via CATV link.)

BBC Proms Radio 3 - relentless stutter
I still do not get it, emailed , and so far no
response.
I've had complete luck receiving GMN, Andante broadcasts, and a few
others as well, and up until three to four days ago, had considerably
more than acceptable luck with BBC, but now is all kaflooey.
It seems that one of the most popularly listened to events would've
been Die Walkure, and that received quite a lot of hype from the
website, and yet I had no problem at all the week that that was on.
I do not pretend to know technology as well as other people who post
here, but I ask all who read not to make light of the difference I have
experienced between how things have been the past four days, as to how
they were for like nine or ten days before.

Look.
Let me break this to you in no uncertain terms.
Dialup service is never a reliable way to get streaming audio.
If you've been lucky in the past to get extremely low-quality streams
with scant interruption, that's interesting, but really, you're using
a one-speed tricycle to follow a Formula 1 race, and it's not the right
technology for the job.

Give them time, I believe they contract this out nowadays;!...

Maybe they have to translate the email to Hindi and back again?
