Cleopatra had one....

Just to drive poor old Jim Read nuts, here's an *open mic* recording from me
Needles which is 'boggier' than usual due to there being (temporarily) more
space than usual in me room and mono due to the mic being a bit Uncle Dick:

See them he

Srill to the ferzzy, merzzy (and occasionally very berzzy)*/** sound of the
delectable (and almost very good) Ms. D Krall:

* Mai Breetish Shooms... ;-)

** CD - what do you expect....?

I had a hobby once. Cost me a lot of money. Then came ebay...

Reminds me sonically of the old acoustic transfer (source: a Mullard 5-10
feeding a Vitavox? horn stood on a couple of raided beer-bottle crates as
Exciter and a couple of ST&C apple-and-biscuit mics on stands, about 4 and 9
ft away, as Pick-ups to line-sending preamps feeding lines patchbay) in our
echo room about 10' x 15' x slanted 5'-9' high with a reinforced ceiling -
that space was purpose-made, hewn in limestone 30' down, under the Studios
we had in Malta, 40 years ago.
The "floor" was always damp because of the porous calcium (sometimes in
winter a deep puddle formed, which altered the sonics). And a couple of 400W
space heaters were always left on.
Access and power, lines, comms was via a hewn narrow, ramped 7' high walkway
from the surface entrance room lobby, and there was a 4"
breather/evaporation pipe ending 10' above the surface. I suspect the
equipment died of rust.
Can't ever beat line-out to line in copying methodology !!

Err... isn't that one hitting the endstops just a tiny little bit*?

* British understatement.

Except when you are trying to demonstrate the *speakers*.....

(Top posted to show just how stupid it is - now you got to *work out* what
I'm referring to...)

Natch. :)

IMO the British bike industry died because Joe Public behaved exactly as the
Yanks still do toward Hardly Capable. The factories saw no reason to develop
until the Road To Damascus conversion caused by the CB750 and Z1, which the
Yanks were and are patriotically oblivious to.

Yeah I know, but that other thread is sooooo long :8

Yes. My version of the waveforms look like that, but if I take a closer
view there seems to be a lot of flat tops in all but a few sections.
I will put up a screenshot or two on the web later this evening.

It looks like an amplifier soft clipping and it sounds like that too.
However, I admit that I hardly ever decode MP3s here so it could be my
freebie decoder (or an incompetent operator).

It was not hard to find quite a few examples like this:

http://www.mainly.me.uk/tmp/n1.gif

http://www.mainly.me.uk/tmp/n2.gif

Not being familiar with analysing audiio waveforms, I still venture to
suggest either my MP3 decoder is doing something silly or the source
looks clipped.

I will download another MP3 decoder this evening to see if it's a problem
at my end.
