OK, got myself a new vinyl version of the 30th anniversary 'Dark Side'.
Question is: Do I open it? I know what it sounds like from the CD (not
/too/ much effort gone into the stereo remaster so would the panel save
it and ebay it some time in the future, or play it to get the full vinyl
experience?
Buy a second copy..
Play one, keep one..
Recover costs in 10 yrs,,
T.
I had thought of that, but it seems to me that these things are starting
to get into the realms of those 'limited edition' trinkets that clog up
the Sunday supplements. I'm going to wait for a MF version on eBay, at
least they won't have screwed up the mix.

Now go and buy the SACD and listen to it in pristine
conditions in MC as it was originally meant to be heard
;-)
BTW save the LP for a rainy day it is very good.
Cheers TT
Money, space and neighbours all unite to preclude this
option, although
(obviously) I do own the SACD. One of these days...
As it happens. I heard Wish You Were Here in real
quadrophonic (4 track
tape) at a hi-fi exhibition in 197.. I think it was before
the album
release, I was blown away. Shame they don't rerelease that
direct now,
You still can hear it :-)

I have a copy and it is excellent
after all who needs the extra 1.1 with decent equipment?
Correct. I am actually rather annoyed they didn't just
release the Quad mix as an SACD.

Crack it open !
The 30th Ann. vinyl is much better sounding than the CD or the SACD
hybrid.
Don't bother saving it in the hope of making a capital gain. They
printed zillions of copies and it was made to be enjoyed, not archived.

Got the very same thing - *unopened* as yet!
(Not saving it for any other reason than keeping it for a treat on a
rainy day!! :-)
I'll prob do that too. An unopened 'thing' is just an itch waiting to be
scratched,
:-)
Would agree entirely, but these days, once I have collared the Desired
Object and got it home, I find I'm in no rush to open it up. (Usually a
bit busy and want to leave it until I've got time to 'relate' to it
properly - I've got a few albums still shrink-wrapped, all waiting for
when I can give them the right amount of attention!! ;-)
That's precisely the right idea, it seems to me. A sealed vinyl album is
like a bottle of fine vintage wine. Both are best enjoyed in good
company:-)

What makes you think the SACD has anything in the centre or sub
channels? :-)

Errrr because noise comes out of them when in MC.
BTW I was taken in by Tubular Bells when I first got it as
the imaging is so good I really thought the was a lot in the
centre channel - until I put my ear right up against it that
is ;-)
