Nick Gorham (Or Anyone Else Who Knows Where To Get Specific Valve Types)
Hi!
My 6N5P valves, in my YaQin MC-10K amp are on their way out. Well, some of
them are.
I REALLY NEED some equivalent replacements, like SOON. Apparently, 6AS7 is
much easier to find, and equivalent.
Apparently also, 6AS7 comes in small ugly forms and tall, sexy forms. I
prefer the latter, obviously, but at a push, would TEMPORARILY settle for
the fugly stubby ones.
I REALLY want my lovely, but fragile and temperamental valve amp to work
again, and be reliable, and it not to be a case of praying and disappointment
and hair-tearing ****in' frustration each time I switch it on. Now, one
channel is much too quiet, and distorted. She sounds so beautiful when
she's not ill. I mean, really, really amazing.
If you can help me with a supplier, I'd really appreciate it.
I might also need you to help me set the bias soon. You can't do that without
the circuit diagram, which I don't have. It has 2 50K trimmers per side,
but I have no idea where to set them. So far, I haven't dared touch them,
for I have no 'scope. I might have to bring the patient chez vous, if your
previous offer still stands.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

There's a guy sells them on e-Bay. Has 100% feedback, ships worldwide, and
takes paypal. He has just had a lot of 4 x 6N5P's on there that didn't
sell - auction ended yesterday. Bid was only $9 for the 4, and no takers.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=5816730235
Probably worth contacting him to see what he would take for them.
BTW, I wouldn't normally consider putting your phone number on an open
usenet group, to be a very good idea ...

Thanks for that, Arfa; I'll check him out.
As for the phone number thing: I hear what you say, but I've been doing
it for years. If some sorry sadsack wants to give me hassle for something
I've written, it says more about them than it does about me.
The only nuisance phone calls I've been getting have either been sales
calls for double glazing/insurance/etc., or my venomous ex-girlfriend.
Thanks again.

Martin, you need to get in touch with DIYHiFiSupply:
http://www.diyhifisupply.com/diyhs_va_tubes.htm
They list 6AS7 and I can recommend them - reasonable prices, quick and
easy all the way from HK!!
Hope this gets through - Pipex have apparently dumped newsgroups (not
daft...) and I found this in Google, but the faff factor just to get
this reply out could well mean it's the last time I post!!

There's plenty of free newsgroup servers out there. There's a couple of
sites that I've used in the past, which list them by the hundreds. Often,
university servers, that don't know that they are open to the world. You
might find that every few months, you get denied access. That just means
that they've found out, and shut the door, so back to the web site, and
start over ...
You might try www.canue.com for starters.

Thanks; I'll check it out.
Very, VERY ****ed at the mo, after a night of clubbing and then getting
even more ****ed back here with my mate, to Stevie Nicks, Leonard Cohen,
Marillion and Metallica.
I really am quite drunk!
Bedtime beckons. I'll have a look tomorrow (today). Thanks again.

Yes, Pipex have got me as well. Normally I would suggest ebay, but I
have a nagging feeling that your amp won't take kindly to marginal
valves. I would give Jim Fish a call, if he doesn't have any, he may
have some ideas

Hah! I wasn't 'contacted'!!
Nick G sent me the new server name but didn't mention the 'login' part, when
it failed I thought no more of it. Now I know what '480 authorisation
