Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that the forums area from the Cambridge Audio website has disappeared today? Hopefully this is just a technical issue - there were a number of really good questions about the new 640H hard-disk server which CA could do with answering... Any response from CA regarding this would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Yes, I noticed it had vanished as well. I fhad ound the forums very useful - when I had trouble with my 640T it was only via the forum that I discovered it was a well-known fault not a one off. There had been a lot of critial discussion and unanswered questions on the forums of late and I guess CA decided it was bad for their image. One can hardly blame them. Robert |

I was in RS Sheffield a couple of weeks ago - they're as in the dark as everyone else concerning the HD CD - 'maybe stuck in a boat between here and China' was their best bet. Ther latest I heard was a software/iPod connection problem, and testing may go on until xmas. |

Same boat as my sodding amp then! Earlier today, I chased up the 300B amp I'm expecting from HK and was told it isn't even in the country yet - after 4 weeks!! (Reputable eBay seller looking in to it...) I was pretty jarred off in a '**** that, never again' sort of way until I learned that our piano tuner had died unexpectedly from natural causes sometime recently.* He was younger than me - equilibrium restored pdq I can tell you!! (Poor sod - nice enough bloke, if a little dour....) (Mine dew, don't get me started on the *un-****ing-believable* Porcel Farce Worldwide 'Thank you for holding' malarkey or I'll end up joining him!!) *Eat, drink, play records and be merrie moi beauties - for some of us life *really is* that short, it seems.....!! |

A number of people (myself included) have been waiting for the release of the 640H since it was announced - which must've been at the start of 2005..? (seems like an age now...) As I've pointed out to Cambridge Audio on the forums, the specification of the machine seemed pretty good - nearly a year ago. But now a 160GB hard disk doesn't seem like much, especially given the fact that it doesn't support Ogg. Ho hum. Seems like a wasted opportunity. The 640H could've been so much better... |

(Mine dew, don't get me started on the *un-****ing-believable* Porcel Farce Worldwide 'Thank you for holding' malarkey or I'll end up joining him!!) I have quite a problem with the industry - what's all this 'stay in all day on the off chance we pop round with your parcel suitably mangled through our pre-industrial handling systems'. Hmph, it does *sort of* matter ;-) *Eat, drink, play records and be merrie moi beauties - for some of us life *really is* that short, it seems.....!! Well, there we are, not that important after all :-) |

I have quite a problem with the industry - what's all this 'stay in all day on the off chance we pop round with your parcel suitably mangled through our pre-industrial handling systems'. Hmph, it does *sort of* matter ;-) I think the pathetic performance of major companies like Porcel Farce is symptomatic of the Modern Era: superficially 'new and improved, computerised and digitised' - *crap* in reality.... I have mentioned here before that I once asked my grandfather what was *really* better than when he were a lad and he said 'cheese and beer'!! (Which were a lot less variable, apparently....!!) So he was a relatively happy old bunny with few complaints! ;-) |

I have a 640T which is currently giving me no problems at all, but should I be concerned in case it does? Is there anything that I could check? Rod. |

I bought my two azur640Ts about a year ago. I noticed, almost at once, that from time to time they would lose signal and then freeze up, making no further attempt to reacquire the signal. They both behaved the same way, though they failed at different times. To get them to retune I had to switch to another channel (on a different multiplex) and back again. This used to happen on average once every 30-40 hours of listening. Richer Sounds swapped them, but the mew ones were just the same. On the forum I found out that many people had the same trouble. CA then said they were soon gong t orelease a fix. After a year of waiting CA did release a new version which fixed the 'lost signal' problem. I now have two of these new units - swapped by Richer Sounds. You can tell if you have the old or new one by pressing and holding in for 2 seconds the "info" button. This will display the version number. V2.0 is the old one. V3.0 is the new. V3.0 also has a yellow dot on the carboard box. Although V3.0 fixes the "lost signal" problem it introduced a new problem, but not a very bad one. When the system is in standby mode it will, after a random time, suddenly switch on the light on the display. I've got used to it now. Other people (on the forum) had noticed the same. V2.0 did not do this. Robert |
