Hello all

I realize that asking this question in a forum for hifi enthusiasts
might be like waving a red flag to a bull
- but can anyone recommend an mp3 player
that I could hook up to the amplifier of my stereo system
(Kenwood KAF 3030R) ?
Ideally it should have a little LCD screen
so that one can pick and choose from the HD
and see what's playing etc.

Grab a laptop off eBay (there's over 2000 listed atm from 99p....) and get
an external soundcard

Forgot to say you then also have the choice of a trillion 'players' with all
sorts of seriously useful on-screen 'filehandling' and 'playlist' options...

(Plus bags of future possibilities with Internet Radio etc, depending on

Any one with a headphone jack will do... which is all of them! Just get the
appropriate lead to connect it to a spare input on your amp (any electronics
shop should sell you one of these). You'll probably need to turn the volume
up pretty high on the player; I've just tried it with my Creative MuVo TX
and with the volume on full the output is slightly less than normal line
level. The sound quality compares well with the optical digital output from
my computer.

By the way, hi-fi and MP3 aren't completely incompatible - it's all a matter
of getting a good encoder for your MP3s. Look into LAME if you haven't got

This player has 5gb storage with a THD reading of 0.01% at 1kHz with 30
kHz filtering.
It has a 73.8db flat response SNR. The lcd screen is a little bigger
than the muvo and personally this is my choice and will probably
purchase it soon. Both these players can be seen at www.creative.com
