Default Sunday Bloody Sunday!

I bloody hate 'machine noise' on weekends (Sundays in particular) and
leading by example, have managed to influence the natives in respect of this
since we moved here a few years back. (Retired old farts mowing their lawns
on sunny Sunday afternoons do get me cross, when they've got all week to do
it...) So here I am hoist with my own wotsit - I've got a pair of far king
great Jericho Horns about *2 hours* away from 'structurally complete' and
haven't been able to finish them today!

http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/fostexfe206e/fostex.htm

Listening to Ahmed Jamal's 'Crystal' thundering away on the Buschhorns (86
dB and less than half the size) just now, I'm gagging to hear the new kids
(96 dB and, er, at least twice the size)....!!??

Still, 'one here' is due round tomorrow evening - if I can get them done
tomorrow during the day he can help me carry them up to the house and will
get to hear them from the off!!

(They gotta be 10 feet or more of 'folded backhorn' and must weigh more than
50 kg apiece even without any 'ballast' in 'em...!!)

:-)

So when you switch between them and the blue jobs, what's the biggest
difference?

Haven't done any switching yet - they are still only about 1 hour old!!
Might get into that a bit later when Phil is here, but I'm really trying to
cut down on the 'hot swapping'!! From my 'memory of the blue ones (Needles)
I would say the differences are actually less than I expected - much the
same sort of sound (loopy clarity - hiss on a CD just now was worse than a
dirty LP!!) The thing that is grabbing me is the scale - a Regina Lund on
atm (not that loud) follows me right out to the back door (the smoking zone)
without any apparent loss of volume! It's like she's right behind me all the
way!

Now if it wuz the other way round....

http://home.rixtele.com/~urdskalla/S...gina_Lund2.jpg

....I wouldn't be too glum about it!! :-P

Not sure I would be too happy about the added hiss, but you can send
Regina over when you're done listening to her.

This triode/horn thing is all about clarity (amongst other things) - it's
when you find how much detail (at both ends of the spectrum) is masked by
the 'slurry pumps' that pass for 'hifi' these days!! (Never mind how much
the meterheads scream n' holler.....!! ;-)

but you can send
Regina over when you're done listening to her.

:-)

Some nice little clips on the website http://www.reginalund.nu/#

Try and find 'Unique' and 'We Don't Need Another Hero' (wrestle with it)...

(This pic:

http://www.reginalund.nu/034U9096.htm

frightened the crap outta me!! :-)

Mmmm... not too sure about that. Once you are starting to exaggerate
the hiss, you've probably taken things too far.

OK, panic over - that bit came up again. It gets louder, then there's a
distant rumble of thunder then guess what....!!

:-)

(I wuz running around like a BAF trying to get the place cleared up - I
wasn't listening properly, I just heard the 'hiss'!! ;-)

Yes, very 'breathy', very clear and *direct* (close mic'd and 'acoustic')
with plenty of stuff going on in the background on many of the trax....
