what power amp?

Hello, I have a Vincent SA-31 hybrid preamp, that I was using with a now
broken Technics amp, and now I'm looking for a new one. I found that the
Rotel RB-03 has a good price, but since I have a diy Fostex FE206 fullrange
speakers I'm worried about his bright sound. Someone told me that I need a
valve power amp with that speaker, but I don't know a lot about valves... do
you know some good valve power amp?
the music I listen the most is rock, a valve amp is it good for this music?
because I read that valve amps have slow bass

thank you

Forget about valve amps, they are for dinosaurs!

Take a look at
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...O&U=Templat e

For £100 you get 2x 50w rms 20Hz to 20KHz s/n 98dB

So dinosaurs have very good ears if you want I buy that thing. That thing
further sounding very badly is also obsolete, because now in pro audio the
standard is class H. Anyone considering buying pro audio equipment should
know that they are made to satisfy pros needs, totally different from home
audio.

Well, someone knows AMC brand? there's a rumor that it has been founded my
some engineer leaving NAD. Apart that how's the sound? thank you

There's lots of solid state amps on the consumer marketplace around that
price range with similar performance. For example:
http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/a109/index.htm

DIN S/N not so good, but even so you could probably pin your ears to the
speaker and barely hear anything. The 20Hz-100KHz +- 3dB might be useful for
keeping any passing bats entertained, if there were any loudspeakers that
could radiate over that range.

BTW, I built quite a few valve amps when there was no alternative. I enjoyed
the construction, the sound, the romance of those glowing cathodes. However,
solid state amps also sound great to me and so that is what I have now.

Given that your FE206s have 96 dB Sensitivity and only 30 Watt 'Power
Handling' (90 Watt peaks) you are getting some pretty scary advice! I use
this driver with valves myself and (some current FR issues aside) I would
say it is very well suited to valves, but there is no substitute for *trying
them* and hearing for yourself.

Valves don't suit everybody - if you are looking for 'pistonic bass' (which
ain't gonna happen with the Fostex drivers) with Rock music I would suggest
you look to powerful SS amplification and speakers more suited to it! Valve
amps don't have 'slow bass' (quite the opposite) but they don't usually have
the grip to control the massive cone excusion of relatively big, fat,
flubbery 'air shifters'..!!

At any rate, beware of *Text Only* audio kit evaluations - there's a growing
trend towards it in this group.....
