PC or Network Drive - WIFI - ???? - HiFi DAC - Amp -Speakers

I have a Arcam Black Box 50 and am about to purchase WiFi Router. What
do I need to get the 'best' HiFi sound from files on the PC to the DAC?
What sort of sound quality is possible? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Simple. Squeezebox 3 Wireless version.

Very good sound quality and digital out (electrical & coaxial). Even
more impressive with broadband radio and

Or possibly:

if you have access to a TV (no display) - it has the advantage of
playing videos as well. 150UKP from ebuyer. I've been using one for a
week or so - a few niggles but basically does as it should.

You need something that will take the audio in 10/100 ethernet format and
convert that to SPDIF format..

We've used this in many different formats and they've been fine:)

Thanks.

What I am looking for is a consumer unit like the Squeezebox but
without the built in DAC. Any idea how the sound quality of WAV over
wireless ethernet with S/PDIF into my Arcam DAC would compare to my
Arcam CD Transport. One concern I have is how well the clock in the DAC
will synchronise with the clock in the unit, the Arcam units have a
connection between them to overcome this issue.

Cheers

Makes you wonder why they don't just integrate a DAC in the player :-)

The Barix box will do the 10/100 to digital SPDIF conversion without
having to convert down to analogue.

FWIW we once set up a 2.4 Ghz video transmitter with external
directional aerials over a Two mile path and use the Vision inputs to
carry SPDIF which is the same level and impedance and approx. bandwidth
as a video signal, and that worked very well indeed unless there was
interference present which happened from time to time but essentially it
was bits in and bitz out:).....

With your current Arcam Transport/DAC setup, try disconnecting this
clock sync link and listen if it makes any difference?

BTW the DAC and the analogue outputs in the squeezebox is optional to
use - the coax/optical outputs are provided for external DAC's like
yours. Though I have an aging audio alchemy dac-in-the-box (which does a
better job getting music out of minidisc than Sony's own DAC's), in the
case of the Squeezebox - the internal one does just fine ;-)

Hopefully the majority of your hard drive stored audio files will all be
in FLAC format if you are going to this much trouble. Low bit rate MP3's
will show up their shortfalls quite quickly on a squeaky clean path.
But, I'm not that fussy - just like listening to new music care of
Pandora :-)

Ok. I like the sound of the Squuezebox. Do you know if it can play
files on a stand-alone network hard-drive or does it need a PC?
