Har har bloody har! :-)
This'll entertain you: Yesterday, I got a call from the owner's son of the (hifi/telly) shop my mate Shiny Nigel works in: 'I've got something here that might be of interest to you?? Intriguing, but I wasn't expectatious - that grabber eBays anything and every thing worth having that comes in by way of p/x. Turns out he had 'about a hundred' LPs that an 'audiophile' had left there and was I interested as there were some 'audiophile pressings' apparently...?? Asitappens, I wanted to get close to a Denon amp I knew he had in stock, so I said yes and went down. The records were a wide-ranging mix and I said no initially, but then I noticed a number of J M Jarre, some Vangelis and a few my son would like, so I said 'OK, go on then, I'll take them' and used them to bash a hefty chunk off the Denon price. Deal for the albums and the amp done, time to leave. As we were lifting the boxes into my car he saw a MFSL copy of the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and said 'Ooh, I wouldn't mind keeping this one to take home and play....??' I said no, bugger off! (He doesn't even run a turntable :-) When I got 'em home I counted them up - there's about 175 discs all told, they were too bloody lazy to count them!! The MFSL Ziggy Stardust I gave my son tonight and the aforementioned Beatles, he tells me, are together *worth* a fair bit more than I paid for *all* the records..!! :-) (I say *worth* because I don't like 'record-dealing', normally - I value records only for the music that's on them...!!) There's some interesting ones in there including the very same HiFi Sound Stereo Test record I paid a good few bucks for on eBay a while back, a NAD/Unicorn 'Digital Demonstration Record' as well a a number of MCA Master Series 'Custom pressed on KC569 Premium Virgin Vinyl' (???) and I'm looking forward to hearing them, but I hafta say, I like them all the more now I know the money-grabber (believe me - he is) has missed out!! Gotta win one once in a while, aint'cha? :-) |

Re Magical mystery Tour. If you have the stereo version with the gatefold sleeve, and 24-page 4-colour booklet with the pics and lyrics, it is quite valuable. A pristine pressing, in a sleeve without dog-ears sells here for about Euro 125. It's a brilliant, timeless LP. Iain |

The copy in question (MFSL with blue banner) doesn't have a booklet, so I checked to see if I already had this album and I do!! http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/beatles.JPG And that one does have the booklet: http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/beatles2.JPG Mint, possibly *unplayed* and no dog-ears! (I didn't even know I already had the record, which is just as well or I would probably have let him take it - tempting to *lend* him a CDR copy and call his bluff....!!! :-) |

Yes. That's the one. Give you 99p for it:-)))) But seriously, hang on to the gatefold version, and keep it in good condition. My local shop has the CD (used) for Euro5. Hmm that's a 20:1 price differential. (I didn't even know I already had the record, which is just as well or I would probably have let him take it - tempting to *lend* him a CDR copy and call his bluff....!!! :-) Tee hee:-) Nice idea. Just going to find my own (vinyl) copy. It contains some brilliant songs. 1969 wasn't it? A very good vintage year for music:-) Enjoy Iain |
