Audiolab 8000A circuit diagrams, etc.
A friend recently bought quite cheaply an old 8000A amp. He only wanted to
use the power amp sections, but one channel is now misbehaving. Hence he has asked me if I can investigate and fix it. Since I am unfamiliar with the circuit details, and know the design is held in high regard I am using the chance to learn something about it. :-) Alas, he has no documentation. Does anyone have a copy of the circuit diagram, layout diagram, service data, or even user manual for the early 8000A amplifier? If so, I'd appreciate a copy of any info of this kind. :-) Slainte, Jim -- Electronics http://www.st-and.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scot...o/electron.htm Audio Misc http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/AudioMisc/index.html Armstrong Audio http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/Audio/armstrong.html Barbirolli Soc. http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/JBSoc/JBSoc.html |

AFAIK, Audiolab (nor Tag-McLaren) has never released schematics. I've
been trying to get one for my PPA for years. Kal On Mon, 19 Jun 2006 13:51:01 +0100, Jim Lesurf wrote: A friend recently bought quite cheaply an old 8000A amp. But, I've gotten over the urge to modify the unit........... Kal |

The may be 'reluctant'. :-/ However I did a google search for "audiolab 8000A" and "circuit diagrams". This gave URLs for half a dozen people offerring to sell a second-hand 8000A with a circuit diagram. Hence I guess some are around, but it may be that this is rare. I do not think they are 'reluctant.' Their policy, expressed to me by many, included the erstwhile CEO, is not to release any schematics. This does not mean that some have not been 'liberated' and distributed. So, if anyone has done so for the PPA, I'd love to hear about it. Kal |

AudioLab/IAG have said in an email to me that they don't provide diagrams.
However I've asked them if they can explain the reasons and perhaps reconsider. They charge 55 UKP/hour + parts + post, but the unit in question is a wreck that the owner bought for 40 UKP, so it doesn't seem worth paying this much to him. Alas, since this is IAG I fear their behaviour will be the same as when I asked for Quad diagrams. Even ones that the old Quad used to provide quite happily they refused to make available. I've been told by someone else that: ] I found these items on the web - the first tantalisingly indicating a ckt ] diag to download. Anyone here a member of diyaudio? If so, are you able to get a copy of the diagram from the above? Certainly has the correct o/p devices, and the TL ic for the dc control, etc. I'll need to sit with the diagram and the amp to be sure, but it looks spot-on! :-))) Many thanks, Keith.
