We (and I mean everybody posting on this group) view the world from a
position of unbelievably vast privilege. We need to remember that.

Absolutely true. I didn't know you had worked in such countries putting
back communications - something of value to give the world. I take my
hat off! I know it was a job and you were paid to do it, but a lot of
people wouldn't have had the guts to do it. Andy

But there are LEGAL RIGHTS

There are certain legal guarantees in certain contexts, e.g. in the
'civilised world' as we call it you can instigate legal action. You are
not born with this 'right' and in other contexts you don't have this
"right" - try taking legal action in Dafor. Tell everyone it's your
"right". See how far you get.

On unmoderated newsgroups there are theoretical legal outcomes, and
this situation is reviewed constantly, but as you can see, in general
terms there is the freedom to say what you like. As I said before this
is a freedom, not a right. Doesn't make any difference in practice -
you will say whatever you like in response to this post, and of course
you will call it your "right". You are free to call it your "right".
You are free to call it your mother in law or a packet of crisps as
well.

There are no such things as "human rights". We are not born with any

politicians, do gooders and do badders would realise this simple fact.
What we do have is certain guarantees depending on the context. For
example if we are a citizen of Holland we have the guarantee of a Dutch
passport, health cover, education etc. If we have the bad luck to be a
citizen of Dafor we have approximately no guarantees at all.

And so to the internet. It doesn't take very much to figure out that we
have no guarantees of anything in an unmoderated group. You don't have
any "rights" as such - all you have is the freedom to express yourself
however you want in words. Freedom to do something isn't the same as
the right to do something, even though it may work out the same in
practice. Andy

Agreed totally.
I've worked in many of the world's nastier places - mostly following
just behind war to resurrect communications (Afghanistan, Kuwait,
Beirut, Angola etc.), and I've learned two very important life
lessons.

1. There are no rights - everything we do is a privilege
2. There are no necessities - everything we have is a luxury

You only need to see one naked, parentless toddler picking up whatever
looks edible in a pile of rubbish to understand that basic fact.

We (and I mean everybody posting on this group) view the world from a
position of unbelievably vast privilege. We need to remember that.

Wise and sobering words, but I'm not sure that we would agree where the
'need' is....

Unfortunately at times like this we do live in a civilised
society where people do respect the law and if this were not
the case Philthy here would found on said rubbish dump face
down tomorrow morning.

This psycho has long ago worked out he can have a free swing
at anyone without consequence and generally the further away
they are the bigger swing he takes. Hopefully for not too
much longer, as the laws in Australia start to mature there
are several people with long memories and deep pockets that
will pursue this through the courts at the right time.

It is about time that this net stalking, abusive psycho
realised that his "free speech" actually caries a cost ;-)

The sad thing is just what a poor show some people can put up when presented
with a true freedom like Usenet (atm).

Lugworms display a superior form of societal behaviour by comparison...

Such banal repetitive offensive abuse is surely the result a
weak mind and damaged personality. But when you understand
that this person is nearly 55yo, has no qualifications (not
even a driver's licence), is a uni dropout, lives alone in a
rented bed-sit in the back blocks Sydney, has no friends
and a joke of a hobby business he runs from his flat then
you will understand why he is the way he is. Such an abject
failure passionately hates anyone's success and worse still
abhors anyone's qualifications.

So when you are such an unemployable, sad individual as
Philthy you can see why he takes to the keyboard because he
can be "such a big man" Usenet.

Basically this is why he escaped any legal action to date -
he has nothing! Zippo. Zilch. SFA ;-) Even his so called
hi-fi is curb side junk ;-) What's a 23yo Sony CDP101 worth
these days or some Jaycar (like Radio Shack) kit speakers
driven by some cobbled together old guitar amp?

You see what I mean? This is why we are patiently waiting
for the laws to change because the only thing this abject
loser has left to lose is his "freedoms".

Cheers TT
