Speakers off query...
I am using a rather smart little Denon SS amp 'pre only' to drive various valve power amps - giving instant confirmation/reaffirmation of my preference for valves every time I do it! This entails using the amp's 'Pre Outs' and switching Speakers A and B *both* off. Could someone confirm that this, at least, *unlikely* to harm the amp when used thus for long periods (all day long, when it's not as hot as today) - I'm *certain* it doesn't harm the amp, but there's always that little tiny doubt nagging away! (I don't want to burst the casework open with a build-up of sound pressure!! :-) |

As long as you aren't feeding any sizeable signals through them, it won't do any harm. You could always add a standby switch to the valve amps. This is a switch to disconnect the HT line from the amp circuitry, leaving it otherwise fully powered, with heaters on. It is a standard feature on guitar amps. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

That's really what I don't know - there's two buttons, one for Speakers A and another for Speakers B. Pop them both out (toggle switches which allow A, B, Both or None) and neither set of speakers would be working - as though you were using the amp's headphone socket only, IYSWIM...?? Sure, but it isn't really the case here - the valve amps are only on when they are being used, fed from the Denon's 'pre'. (Otherwise they wouldn't be on at all.) It's whether or not there's any damage being done if the Denon's power amp circuitry is cooking away *unused*....?? |

OK, no - the Denon won't give a toss about being left on and unloaded. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

OK - lovely, that's what I wanted to hear - it gets pretty warm for SS gear!! (At 200 nicker, we aren't talking the end of the world here but I am more comfortable knowing that - thanks!! ;-) |

Obviously in the early seventies when Philthy was told "The more you suck, the higher you get" he was obviously naive to what a joint was ;-) BTW as you will notice he suppresses his homosexual tendencies and this is probably due to a staunch Catholic upbringing and education. Believe it or not he even lives directly opposite a Catholic church so right now our keyboard hero is doing all this in full view of the church. As I have previously stated this mere shadow of a human is unmarried, has never been married, as far as anyone can ascertain has never had a girlfriend, lives alone, has no friends and has a fascination for al things in the "nether regions" of the human male body. Mmmmm........ Yes folks a classic repressive personality. Cheers TT |
