Default Tweeter mounting

Hi,

What would be the effect, if any, of mounting a tweeter (O/D: 130mm;
Voice coil diameter: 25mm) directly behind an aperture (76mm diameter
and 16mm thick)?

This is an absolute last resort but due to the makeup of the speaker
cabinet there is no way to secure it from the front.

Kind regards
Danny

Probably nothing too audible, but I wouldn't do it....

Theory suggests nasty diffraction effects. But try. It might sound
OK. You can always take it out again.

A guess would be not too good - reflections etc.

There's always a way to modify wood. ;-)

Okay, so according to you, securing from the front isn't an option.
Specifically why?
Ever thought of having the front of the baffle rebated to accommodate a
flush front mounting of the tweeter flange, which would normally be the
preferable mounting method for most tweeters.

Cheers,
Alan

Reflections and resonances in the area between the edge of the hole and the
edge of the diaphragm.
A sort of a cavity effect due the the excessive thickness of the hole - a
resonance followed by a roll-off.

Far better to front-mount the tweeter.

This is an absolute last resort but due to the makeup of
the speaker cabinet there is no way to secure it from the front.

If good hi-fi is not the goal, then whatever. There will be "some kind of
highs".

** Coloration.

** Can you remove all the outer mounting flange & make the tweeter small
enough to fit into the hole ?

A flush fit would be ideal.

Hi

Crisis averted, I've managed to find a way, being a bit more brutal
than I would have liked, of fitting it through the front, so the
tweeter fits as it should be,

The actual trouble was is that the mesh over the front is secured
behind the front panel, which is glued into the cabinet, and what made
matters a little bit more awkward, the front panel protrudes from the
rest of the cabinet so that there is a chamfered edge, I've got a
picture of it if anyone is interested:

Kind regards
