What do I need to make this work?
Hi there
I have a Liteon DVD Recorder with the following audio outputs Digital Coax Optical 2 x Phono My Sky satellite box has 2xphono out I have a set of Creative 5.1 speakers. These have the usual phono inputs. I would imagine that I need some sort of receiver/amplifier between the source devices and the speakers into which I could plug in the digital coax or optical from the DVD Recorder and the 2 x phono from the sky box. If this is correct, would this receiver/amplifier have some sort of decoder to output the signal from the DVD in surround sound? Can the phono signal from the Sky box be put out in surround sound too? Any advice welcome! Many thanks Alex |

These have the usual phono inputs. Do the speakers have a built-in amplifier? Also, what's your budget and what's the chance that you may want to upgrade to full-size hi-fi speakers at some point in the future? If the speakers are amplified, you could connect the phono outputs from the DVD recorder or the Sky box directly to them and get stereo sound. You could buy a cheap switch if you want to connect both at once. To get surround sound you'd need to add a decoder. (I think Creative sells one of these.) If your speakers aren't amplified, you'd be best getting yourself an AV receiver which would have the relevant decoder and amplifiers built in. |
