Before I get too far into a recording session with a new mic configuration:

I would like to know if the setup sounds OK - does this 'warm up' blast
sound any good *micwise*..??

http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show...0SE(CP)-01.wav

Is there any decent *stereo image* apparent?

Yup - the image is there ok. The mics aren't quite coincident though,
they need to be angled slightly more towards each other until the two
diaphragms are right over each other. At the moment you have about an
inch of separation, which would give you a comb filter null at 5kHz -
still low enough to matter. (on a mono mixdown of course).

Ha! Just sent that to you direct!!

(Note to all assembled here - Don is mentoring me on all things
*recording*...!! ;-)

OK, so the meshes would be what - crossed right in the middle or just past
that to form an angle at the 'far end', IYSWIM...??

(Not that I'm too bothered about 'mono compatability' as you know....)

You assume that the diaphragms are somewhere in that first solid bit
of the mics - probably a bit nearer the end than the rest of the body.
Cross them there, and you will have it right.

OK, did that and then lifted it over to the piano - not sure I liked it over
the 'spaced pair' (both the SEs and Oktavas), but it did sound quite *real*
or at least the computer setup sounded quite like the piano...???

(Too much squeaky pedal noise tho'.....!! ;-)

You ain't missing anything - it was only a quick blast with a 'maximum
loudness' to help me set recording levels....

Having killfiled me I can't give you my professional advice. Which is of
course how you've done it is wrong - or rather not the best way.
