Audacity and Echoes
I'm trying to capture streaming audio from Radio 7. I have a Toshiba
Qosmio with sound card. it has Windows XP MCE. I'm using Audacity but the only input options are Line In / Mixed / Mic. Unfortunately when I try and record the audio stream this is played through the built-in speakers, and the sound is then picked up by the in-built mic. Whe played back the recording has extraneous noises and echoes on it - from the mic. What I need is for Audacity to take the input direct from the sound card. But I can't work out how to do this. Please can someone help. Many thanks - SB. |

Hmm - thanks - an idea but .... the mic picks up the sound from the
speakers by conduction through the case. If I mute the mic. nothing is picked up. I need Audacity to take the audio feed direct from the sound card. SB. Not feasible. The sound is not being taken from the sound card - that's
the problem. SB Keith G wrote: "SB" wrote in message ps.com... Hmm - thanks - an idea but .... the mic picks up the sound from the speakers by conduction through the case. Rolo - thank you for that suggestion. However when I do that I find
that Audacity isn't picking up any audio at all. It needs to capture the input/output from the sound card not the mic. Turning the mic off means that nothing is captured at all. I'm begining to think that there is something wrong with the sound card. Cheers - Chris B. Rolo Tomassi wrote: SB wrote: I'm trying to capture streaming audio from Radio 7. Not *all* sound cards allow the 'wave' or 'Stereo Mix' output of the card to be used for recording imput *on the same card*. You can check this (in XP) by opening the mixer controls, doing options- properties, and checking which 'volume controls you can show', when you toggle the radio buttons to 'adjust volume' for recording. For this dell dimension 3100 I'm using (onboard SigmaTel Audio), I have the same problem. Available playback controls are ... -- Volume Control -- Wave -- SW Synth -- CD Player -- Input Monitor -- Mono Mix & available recording controls are ... -- Line In -- Microphone --------- For another computer based on a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 rev2.x (onboard Realtek AC97 Audio) Available playback controls are ... -- Volume Control -- Wave -- SW Synth -- Front / Subwoofer / Centre / Rear -- SPDIF -- Line In -- CD Player -- Microphone -- Phone Line -- PC Speaker & available recording controls are ... -- Mono Mix -- Stereo Mix ============= -- SPDIF -- Line In -- CD Player -- Microphone -- Phone Line Better luck here .... :-) Have a google, and check sourceforge. There are plenty of applications for recording audio from streaming broadcasts _without_ having to do it via the soundcard. -- Adrian C |

HTH Rolo You could try turning the PLAYBACK volume of the mic to zero on the mixer, that way you can still use it as an input but won't hear it out of the speakers (therefore no feedback/echo).
