Any good modules/kits to build 300w MOSFET stage amp?
I'm looking for some way of building a couple of portable (think "I can
lift it and carry it upstairs in one hand") active speakers for use with keyboard and/or bass guitar for occasional gigs. I anticipate using a seperate preamp. There are a few 100w modules about (built a Maplin one a while back) but anything more like 300w? I'm thinking of reproducing a Roland Cube or Polytone type cabinet with 12" or 15" speaker. All ideas welcome. Andy |

Andy To reduce weight you'll be into an SMPS and that's likely to be more of a problem kit wise than the amp itself. Like all such things a ready made is likely cheaper than a kit anyway. -- *No radio - Already stolen. Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

How about these:
http://www.hypex.nl/docs/UcD400_datasheet.pdf I've never put a bass or keyboard through a digital amp - any ideas how suitable these are for stage use? |

"Andy Evans" I've never put a bass or keyboard through a digital amp - any ideas how suitable these are for stage use? ** Watch out - many Class D power amp modules have truly HORRIBLE sound when driven close to or into clipping. The ones used in the Zech S3A sub box being prime examples - makes a noise like the cones have rips in them. ........ Phil |

I might go ahead and experiment - presumably I can double them up? Andy |

The designer, Bruno Putzeys, has his own forum on Pro Sound Web at http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/f/45/5267/ so it might be worth sending a message to him to see what he thinks. I can't see any reason why they shouldn't work. Cheers James. |
