Default Pioneer XR-P470C Mini system CD section duff

Hi,
I've recently bought a secondhand XR-P470C mini system which has a duff CD
section and would like some advice as to what is likely to be wrong with the
CD unit.

At present, the units CD tray will open and close, the unit will change CDs
(3 can be used)
but after going through a check of all three CDs the unit displays "No
Disc". All I've tried so far is inserting a CD head cleaner disc to see if
it was muck on the lens but to no avail.

Aside from the CD trouble the unit and its remote control are working very
nicely and played through my B&W DM-610 speakers sounds fine.

I'd be grateful for any insights you gurus might have on the problem.

Thanks very much

Tony (Hereford)

Thanks Gents,
will check out: sci.electronics.repair
I feel stupid asking these questions as I used to service Marine radio and
radar gear however, most of that kit had those funny glass things which
glowed (I'm not talking bottles of Rum here!)
Cheers all
Tony

** In most cases, this indicates a very weak or dead laser OR the laser
cannot focus on the disk.

The fix is to replace the entire CD mechanism, as it is supplied as one
component.

The problem is that replacement CD drives are either simply not available or
too expensive.

Phil,

That simply isn't true on all counts, and Pioneer lasers rarely fail anyway.
As I already told this guy over on sci.electronics, with this model, it's
likely just a dirty laser. Like many who ask for advice though, he never
acknowledged that which was given to him.

Hi Keith

Trust you had a good 'un ? Yeah, sometimes they do, and sometimes, they even
come back on again later, and say " thanks - that cured the problem ", which
is always nice, but for the most part, you're right - it's just like
shouting down a dead telephone ...

Hi Keith

Hi Arfa!

Yes, thanks - several actually!! ;-)

You too, I hope!

Yep - sign o' the times, I'm afraid! I believe the last straw was when the
Mad Cow went over to the States, got introduced to the 'American Way' by
Ronnie and promptly came back and installed it as a brand new way of life in
dear old Blighty. Top that (as we did) with a Mad Cow 'Mini Me' like Blairy
The Impossible Fairy and you can see how 'British Decency' standards went
down the tubes overnight, while we got served up on a plate to Johnny
Foreigner...!!

Anyway, let's not start the new year with a rant - you'll be pleased to know
the turntable fix with the little 19mm drive belt you sent me has been 100%
successful and the deck is used almost Daily, Arfa!!

;-)

Awaiting now, the 'xenophobe' shrieks from the Quad Squad who, having not
quite yet lost their seat on the Gravy Train to a 30 quid a day Pole, have
yet to withstand the onslaught of the 'Vampyres' who'll do whatever they do
just as well (or equally badly) for a *lot* less than that....!!

(All you gotta do is pitch the 20 to a room Accomodation Rates right and
you're away!!)

Larf? Do yew not hafta...??

:-)

I had a similar problem with a Kenwood HiFi, It turned out that I
needed to press a specific cd button ( CD1, CD2 etc) on the front
panel. It pays to read the manual.
