Stylus "weight"?

Just got this (link below) for my Pioneer PL-512 to replace the Ortofon
VMS5E MKII it had originally.

Any ideas on what weight to use? I have some handy digital scales that
should do the trick. The whole thing is out of adjustment, anti skate,
weight... everything. Is there a site somewhere that will guide me through a
basic setup?

At the moment it sounds awful! Tinny, no volume and distortion....

Thanks for any advice....

Les

For a VM5E typically 2grm or even 2.2grm should do. It is a fairly
stiff assembly so anything lighter than that couls cause tracking
problems. You will need little or no anti-skate.

2.2g and a certain Mr. D.Bowie and "Hunky Dory" is sounding bloody
brilliant! It was virtually hovering giving all that tinniness and
distortion...

Nice one... :o)
