Strange. I'm listening to R4 DAB on a decent system and it sounds fine.
Hearing loss with age
But the OP wants something better than MW. Or perhaps you prefer that to
DAB too? ;-)
U should know where I stand on DAB by now Dave!..

Er, don't know, but I'd guess not - that only tends to come with the
costlier mini hifis I think.
Have you checked
http://www.bbc.co.uk/digitalradio/
- that'd get you in the ballpark. I've found DAB reception
unpredictable
- I get better reception in Sheffield than I did in east London.
Perhaps you could do a crafty Argos try-and-see?!
The Pure Evoke has am external socket, as does most of the Pure
stuff I think - quite pricey but I think they give reasonable sound,
and look quite nice if that matters.

If you were to consider a freeview box without a TV you'd need a
display - Humax boxes have one, but they haven't got enough
characters to display the full station name. You'd think they'd put
a freeview tuner in some of these 'hifi' boxes. Still.
I really question the wisdom of connecting a portable DAB radio to
anything bigger then say 2 and a half inch speakers...
Anything bigger will show up the digital radio lie!....
However, when fm radio ceases what else is there to do?
Don't worry FM will be around for a very long time to come yet. Anyone
noticed
any plans to turn of the Radio 4 longwave AM transmitter on 198 kHz as
yet?...
I thought it was imminent (about the time they were starting to turn of
the
analogue TV? about 2009?)
And your source for that is?.....
(Talking about turning off FM radio)
No idea where I heard it g. What is the current situation?

No firm plans. And I'd say unlikely in the foreseeable future.

I'd love to get you to prove you can tell the difference here between R4
DAB and R4 FM...

Horses for courses. If they were to turn off FM it might be a different
matter. But DAB has its uses.
