seeking help for leak stereofetic tuner
Hi everyone,
I would like to find a schematic for the affordmentioned tuner . It is the less sought after fm tuner made by Leak (ss vs Tubes). Can anyone help me locate a schematic for it .Any advice regarding the "usabilaty" of this tuner, and or, comment will be greatly appreciated . thank you in advance M |

Its a fine thing for a history lesson of the time, the name cane from Stereo FET and IC !.. FWIW.. -- Tony Sayer |

There may be one in Spicer's book on Leak. I'll check that later today if I get a chance. My (unreliable) recollection, though, is that the StereoFETIC was referred to at the time by some as the 'StereoPathetic' because its RF performance was quite poor in various ways. Not tried one myself, though. Not tried one myself, though. Slainte, Jim I seem to remember that its IF bandwidth was rather relaxed and suited to the widely spaced channels of the time. These days, when channels are crowded up against each other, it might not perform so well. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

Have 3 of 'em...one boxed/new from eBay a few years back...overpaid
for that - they go for peanuts now Originally bought one in 1971 - used for 15 years until a Meridian 104/ JVC TX-900L. The Stereofetic is capable of superb results (ie, typically in advance of the quality now transmitted - especially in terms of transient response). It has a few weaknesses. The stereo decoder needs tweaking - top LH underneath decoder board pot - as 'mono' is differentiated from 'stereo' by little more than a 2/3mm turn. The power supply can fail - and capacitor Hum can be around from this source. You might get a bit of noise from the aged transistors. The capacitors (1.5/10uF) definitely need either replacing or bypassing. The output leads are pretty awful quality - thin OFC is far better. The tuner has an inherently somewhat 'bright' response...although essentially more 'neutral' than the preceding Stereo Troughline 3. I needed to mod a Meridian 104 quite a lot to achieve the 'speed' that the Stereofetic is capable of. It should be quite sensitive (there is a bit of pot-tweaking that can be done underneath the gang's) - but the wide-ish IF is possibly not suitable for crowded City locales. |
