I can't live on Ricochet Romance....
OK, it's a bit quiet in here and the weather's ****e again, so here's a little *link rich* Indoor Fun Pack with a couple of 'wobbycam' gems from the past for your delight and delectation and to pass the time: These snippets.... http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/Ricochet.wmv http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/MerryGoRounds.wmv are Joan Regan and (where applicable) the 'Squadronaires' - see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Regan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Squadronaires (Some might say Doris Day done *right* but I wouldn't care to comment. Also, tonearm buffs please note that the minimalist 'straight stick' arm on these old Lencos will let even a knackered old G800 ride just about *any* groove with little or no antiskate!) Now, that's the fun part - down to business: Let's have a check on the 'fidelity' - anyone care to stab a guess as to who's singing this: http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/Inchworm.wmv ?? Answers on a postcard.... |

By the way, it shows that at every era there is a "style" of performance that dates the music. It sounded very much like BC, but not quite, the style was the same, and I couldn't think of who also sounded like him, as they pretty much all did. OK, Frank Sinatra was different. Listen to the two of them in High Society. You can date 50s, 60s and 70s pop almost to the year without knowing anything about the sond or artist, just from the sound. (SNIP) There was a British crooner, Michael Holiday who sounded very much like Bing. So much so that most people could not tell them apart. He had a number of hits, the most famous being "Starry Eyed" and "The Story of My Life" Sadly, he committed suicide in 1963 Iain |

Here's a bit more (10 Meg) from the flip side that might help (shocking edit due to haste): http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show/DannyKaye.wmv ("I'm a cobbler" ?? :-) Pity so much 'tone' is lost by the little digital camera I'm using because the voice is very lifelike 'in the flesh' as it were! No complaints, or it'll be Harry Secombe, Max Bygraves or - wait for it - Flanagan and Allan!! :-) |
