True. He was never to my taste in tenor singing, but certainly a great
spectacle. Bel Canto has always been more my thing than Can Belto.

*Belto* indeed - the 'Cornetto Song' has just ended on Carsick FM!!

(Getting in my car a while back I was greeted with Pav's Nessun Dorma
and it's been Pav all the way - if nothing else, what a *performer* he
was!!)

That thing must have hung round his neck like an albatross. Suppose it
made him a rich man, though.

An exclusive Decca artist for a phenomical forty years. Luciano Pavarotti
was the most popular classical artist in the history of the record industry.

It brought him the "wider audience" recognition that few classical
artists can even dream of. Worldwide sales were phenomenal.
Expect an "In Memoriam" boxed set from Decca fairly soon.

In one of the online articles I read about him, he stated the Three
Tenors Concert (*them* not *he*) brought 'opera' to an audience of 1.5
(or was it 1.8?) *billion* people!

But was he as good as Jussi Bjoerling?
