If ever there was a great album crying out for a re-master, this is it.
I've always found it suffers congestion and poor dynamics, particularly
on "All The Love Of The Universe" (the greatest track, IMHO).

Finding this on Amazon -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000A2I1B - I ordered a
copy.
It arrived today and I find it's exactly the same as the bog-standard
cd issue I bought 4 yrs ago which suffers the congested sound like the
original vinyl I have.

By contrast, "Welcome" by the same artist, which arguably didn't
require re-mastering, has had a re-mastered release which I possess.

Does anyone know if "Caravanserai" has been genuinely re-mastered for
vinyl or cd?

Have I been sent the wrong cd by Amazon or is Amazon wrongly
advertising the standard cd?

Adding to my confusion is this Ebay ad. - http://tinyurl.com/2x7akc -
which declares "bonus tracks" but offers the standard track listing.

There is good news and bad news on the Caravanserai front.

The good news is that there is a very good mastering of this classic album
available on a digital format.

The bad news is that it is a Japanese single layer stereo SACD. So,
difficult to find, expensive when you do, and it only plays on an SACD
player. My copy sounds suberb.

I do not agree with you.
Caravanserai is one of my favourite albums on vinyl wich I prefer to play
when someone asks me to demonstrate the beautiful sound of analog recording.
It's an american CBS copy from halfway the 70's I believe.
But, very interested in a SACD version!
Kind regards, Gijs.

"congested" sound? Please explain just what the hell that's supposed to
mean. I've been collecting vinyl since the late sixties, and I've NEVER
heard a "congested" recording.

By contrast, "Welcome" by the same artist, which arguably didn't
require re-mastering, has had a re-mastered release which I possess.

You sound as though you don't believe that they actually remastered it.
