Yes, and I had a photo of it but it was pre-digital and I can't find it.

It wasn't an "Ariel" bike, was it?

It's an external mount folded dipole type with F-type connector on the
aerial. Complete with wall mounting and 10m cable.

Why on earth did they decide on the F-type connector for DAB aerials, it
is a total pain to connect and is a matter of trial and error to get a
good connection why didn't they go for BNC?

when BNC connectors first appeared we thought the abbreviation stood for
B***** Nasty Connector. Unless you can find crimp ones, and they have to
be the correct ones for the cable size, they re very difficult to assemble
correctly - and the cost quite a bit more, too.

You jest? Fitting a screw on F-type couldn't be simpler. BNCs require the
correct crimping tool. They're also several times the price.

There are crimp less types - if they're still made. With a universal cord
grip. Think there are also screw on types these days too.

My ( now discarded) DAB tuner had BNC.

Show me some F connectors at a fraction of 16 pence please. :-) The
only place I find cheap F connectors is on the road after a Sky van has
paid a visit.

eg.
http://www.connectorco.co.uk/catalogue/bnc.htm BNCs from 16 pence.
http://www.connectorco.co.uk/catalogue/coaxial.htm F plugs from 59
pence.

BNC is a right pain to put on outside in the cold with frozen fingers.

F isn't that bad..

Why did they need to use connectors anyway when screw terminals have
done for years?..

Ah - didn't read the thread. I thought it was a sat feed. Bit of wet
string will do for DAB - or it would if they just wound up the wick on
the transmitters a bit.
