Odd that a cable like this is needed to extract the best from the old 2.5mm t&e! They could extend the ring main into the amp and save a packet......... -- Pete Cross |

They are claiming a current rating (OK, they call it a power rating, but we already know they are clueless) of 60 amps - with a 13 amp mains plug on one end and an IEC connector on the other. Interestingly they have used the one designed for kettles, not the equipment one. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

I could have been enjoying my own private island in the Caribbean by now, instead of having to put up with January in England! David. |

Last year "Hi Fi World" did a comparitive test on mains cables, this is what they said of the most expensive one (480 pounds): "The outstanding bass extension and tunefulness of the TCI was soon evident as it had a wonderful ability to reproduce the timbre and dynamics of the solo piano playing from 'Beethoven Piano Sonatas'" ... "the lead guitar was also stunning, eliminating the uncomfortable ringing distortions of the 'Free' mains lead." Perhaps some-one cleverer that I could explain how a mains cable can do this unless it was compared to a 100 metre coil of bell wire on an amp with a totally crap power supply. |

If the free cable was of reasonably decent construction (no poor connections etc) then I can see no possible way in which substituting an outrageously expensive alternative could possibly alter the sound in any way. How was their "listening test" conducted I wonder? and who got the backhanders? David. |

Some points to note about the 'cable reviews' in HFW. 1) The often say little or nothing about the equipment used. 2) Generally don't give a by-line so you can't identify whose views are written. Thus they seem to be opinions stated as facts which have preciptated from thin air, with nothing in the way of any assessable evidence, and almost nothing in terms of context. Content free writing. :-) Mind you, (1) may be relief to some equipment manufacturers as it means their gear isn't give a reputation of being incapable of working correctly when mains powered. ;- Slainte, Jim -- Electronics http://www.st-and.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scot...o/electron.htm Audio Misc http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/index.html Armstrong Audio http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/Armstrong/armstrong.html |
