Actually the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was Little Boy
(originally named Thin Man after Franklin Roosevelt, then renamed
after a smaller casing).

Fat Man (named after Winston Churchill) was dropped second on
Nagasaki.

Thus Fat Man came in second.

Since this seems to have little to do with audio, can't resist a bit of pub
quiz trivia: who was the aircraft engineer who re-designed the bomb bay of
the Boeing "Enola Gay" to accept the Hiroshima bomb? Points deducted for
Googling.

Not sure if googling would work, as Enola Gay is one of 15 B-29s modified
specifically for the atomic bomb missions. The planes were fitted with new
engines and propellers and faster-acting pneumatic bomb bay doors in total
over 500 likee it where manufactured at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft
Factory in Omaha ?

Pretty good, but no cigar - how's that for a hint?

One of the sadder aspects of the entire affair was what happened to
the crew of the USS Indianapolis, a cruiser which delivered the
contents of Little Boy from San Francisco to Tinian. Only two people
on the ship knew what was on it, neither of them crew members. Only
three hundred of the crew survived five days in shark infested waters
after being torpedoed.

OK I *have* to ask: Did those two make it to be among the survivors?
