Thomson TUTV pvr, how to?
Hi
The brief version first:
I have a Thomson 160gb PVR (DVB-T) originally supplied at cut price as
package with Top Up TV.
If I remove the smart card (TUTV, Sedanta etc) I also lose access to all
other features such as the EPG and the archived programs on the HDD.
A dialog appears on screen that those features are only available as
part of the subscription to TUTV. Without the card it is a basic DVB tuner
only. How do I tweak or modify so that without a TUTV subsciption I
still have it as a PVR?
The long-winded version:
TUTV is not a great service, I only really used GOLD and Sedanta.
The Thomson PVR makes excellent recordings.
But in recent months there were several over the air upgrades that have
crippled our machines - crashes, EPG fails, even bug fixes for previous
"upgrades" have been problematic.
So I cancelled my subscription to TUTV, thats when I learned that most
of the other features of the PVR would also be lost, primarily it can no
longer be used as a PVR, just as a basic DVB-T.
My subscription to TUTV ends in first week of Jan.
I have purchased a Sony 995 DVD recorder/PVR (250gb.)
I have been transferring over my Thomson archived programs via RGB -
RGB scarts, and the recordings are excellent, indiscernable from the
originals. But.....
The Sony has only one DVB-T tuner.
I want to retain the Thomson as a second PVR and as it has twin digital
tuners, as a connected tuner via RGB scart to the Sony, so as to have
in effect 3 digital tuners accessed via the Sony.
I'm not out to defraud TUTV, I just want access to the HDD and to
continue using it as a PVR. But how?
Is there a smartcard that would un-encrypt and allow access (Not to
the EPG or TUTV, just want access to the HDD)
Or a modification?
Thanks in advance.

See http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/f...play.php?f=123 for more
Thomson PVR specific info. I suspect you'll find a solution there.
Which model PVR is it?

Thomson TUTV pvr, how to?
Try removing the card before it expires and see what happens. I have two of
these, both bought as Top Up TV special offers but never activated (not even
for the free trial). They work perfectly as both tuners and PVRs, download
regular free rubbish Top Up programs (mostly National Lottery) and ads for
new Top Up services. Most importantly, they get the full 14 day Top Up EPG
and any Thomson upgrades using the Top Up channels.
