Both of your parents are of course autistic defectives too. Do you get the message, yet * - * *IMBECILE * ?? Cretins like you are a pox on the face of the earth. Oh dear!, poor old phil is foaming at the mouth again. Never mind, the men in white coats will be along soon. :-) David.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I dip back in from time to time, and it's still the same peanut gallery, with old Allison potty-mouthing away but saying nothing. Actually the sad thing is that Phil does have sensible things to say from time to time, it's just such a shame that all anyone ever notices is his abusive language. Let's face it guys, hi-fi as a hobby is dead, we're just chewing over old bones here. Hi-Fi *as a hobby* is certainly a lot less popular than it was in the 1970s, but domestic audio is alive and well. Almost every house in the land has an audio system of some form or other, usually more than one. These range from the ubiquitous iPod to the outrageously overpriced "exotic" Hi-Fi systems of the audiphools. And there has been considerable growth in the number of audio systems in commercial use as well. So any idea that "audio" is dead is totally and completely wrong. David. |

Where does he say "audio" is dead"? He says 'hi-fi as a hobby is dead' and he's mostly right People use 'audio' stuff like kitchen appliances these days - switch it on; listen to it (or probably not really listen to it); switch it off. That's what 'digital' does - levels the playing field so that technical considerations become a non-issue and, if one avoids paying through the nose for silly 'names', makes stuff so cheap these days nobody needs build it (and/or learn to build it). |

But the OP went on to say that "we're just chewing over old bones here" and, since this is an audio (not "HiFi") newsgroup the only valid interpretation of the whole sentence is that he thinks "HiFi" and "audio" are the same thing. That's what 'digital' does - levels the playing field so that technical considerations become a non-issue As far as most people are/were concerned technical considerations always were a non-issue, they bought the stuff and used it. It only ever was the engineers and the enthusiasts who were concerned with technical issues. Well the engineers are still here, but by and large the enthusiasts have moved on to something else, such as motorbikes! David. |

But the OP went on to say that "we're just chewing over old bones here" and, since this is an audio (not "HiFi") newsgroup Really? Perhaps you might care to read the actual wording of the ukra charter: "uk.rec.audio is an unmoderated newsgroup. It is primarily a forum for discussion of hi-fi equipment available in the UK, a place for independant reviews and opinions on hi-fi, and an advice centre for those bitten by the upgrade bug. It may include discussions on what hi-fi is trying to do (accurately reproduce music? a 'live' acoustic?) and its development. It is also a site for the private sale and exchange of used hi-fi components." See it he http://www.usenet.org.uk/uk.rec.audio.html the only valid interpretation of the whole sentence is that he thinks "HiFi" and "audio" are the same thing. Who's to blame him? In the context of this group they effectively are - see 'Discussion and exchange of hi-fi audio equipment' in the 'Newgroups (title) Line'! People use 'audio' stuff like kitchen appliances these days - switch it on; listen to it (or probably not really listen to it); switch it off. Well the engineers are still here, but by and large the enthusiasts have moved on to something else, such as motorbikes! If you mean me, I was interested in and riding motorcycles a long time before I became interested in 'hifi'! The sad truth is the 'enthusiasts' you mention have been driven out by abuse from a small number (past and present) here and they have actually moved on to becoming 'hifi/audio enthusiasts' who simply don't post (or subscribe) here! |
