I doubt you will find anyone here who could give you an opinion about that
particular software - but why audio *compression* in this day and age where
storage is vast and dirt cheap...???

I presume you mean 'WavePak' (Google gives no hits for 'WvavePak').

This site is among several which say it's freeware (as opposed to 'free
download', which usually means eventually pay-for shareware).
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/au...coders/wavpack.
cfm

As there are lots of places where it can be downloaded from, it's almost
certainly OK. But if in doubt, ask in the alt.comp.freeware newsgroup.
And if it's not freeware, you will certainly be told!

Personally, I have never compressed audio data as I would be overly
concerned about degradation. I have been delivered some files that are
compressed using this software (WavePak Audio Compression, sorry about
the original typo!) and I would like to decompress the files.

However, thanks for you comment. I am sorry if I have asked this
question in the wrong place. No one I know has heard of this software.

Thanks for that suggestion. I will ask there. I'm not worried about it
being free or not. It's just that I am a bit paranoid about free/
shareware. A lot of them contain some kind of malware.

Your paranoia is noted. ACF will certainly confirm that it's OK. I've
got masses of freeware (in fact, most of my software is freeware!), and,
to be honest, I can't really say that it's ever brought any 'uninvited
visitors' along with it. But I do always try to use something OKed by
ACF.

OK, no worries - I just wondered!
