Or are some eras more resistant to being cast in the rosy glow of nostalgia? I went to the GCR Diesel Gala on Saturday 12/09/09, they had some original 1970's BR posters up at Loughborough Central. For a real 'Life on Mars' experience, you could try Manchester Victoria, I went in there last October, it still had 1970's style BR signage and other features. There are of course plenty of blue diesel fanatics but it's not their enthusiasms that I'm thinking about here; I'm wondering about the perceptions of the "normal" public. Andy Gosh - does this mean my turntable and vinyl long players are back in fashion ?? They have been for a few years now, you can buy some very nice 'designer' turntables from proper hi-fi shops, also DJ decks such as the 'Technics 1200' never went away. Just recently, all the Beatles LP's have been re-released on vinyl, along with various other classic albums. Many reggae and electronic music releases are avalable on vinyl too. Mine is a decent Denon turntable picked up on eBay. I utilize it for digitizing vinyl albums. I then burn CDs. Why anyone would want to listen to vinyl is beyond me. I spend hours cleaning up the copied sound. I'm lost. Is this post by Keith or Serge? Neither - it's '1506's original response that Serge replied to. No, look at the top. I was replying to Serge's post, not 1506's. And you sent one a few posts back with that identical para (starting "Mine is a decent") too. So I'm confused with who is writing what. OK, now I'm lost too but it isn't my post. It's ok - I sussed what happened. Your newsreader didn't quote properly, and made it look like 1506's paragraph was yours. And Serge managed to put his reply in his sig line, so I didn't see it. And his newsreader didn't quote properly either. So it all got ****ed up. Actually, there's a bit of a clue in that Serge removed the cross-posting - which would seem to indicate his comment wasn't directed toward the OP and/or his immediate respondent? |

Actually, there's a bit of a clue in that Serge removed the cross-posting - which would seem to indicate his comment wasn't directed toward the OP and/or his immediate respondent? Yes, for some reason my Newsreader didn't quote properly (didn't insert the arrows) so I replied after the -- just to indicate that it was a reply, not part of the earlier post. I also removed the cross-posting as I've never posted on those NGs. Sorry if I confused anyone. I reiterate that my use of vinyl is mainly for nostalgia. I have four turntables in regular use, an AEG TRS9000, an EMT948, a Garrard 401/SME3009/V15III and a GL75/G800-78 I keep just for the few 78s I occasionally play. They're great fun, in a vintage MG sort of way. However, my attitude to vinyl has changed over the years. Before CD, the imperfections of vinyl would drive me up the wall, all that distortion, clicks and bangs, W&F, cutter rumble etc etc. CD changed all that. Now, if I want great music, immaculately reproduced I have CD, if I want to play with my Hi-Fi I have my LPs. Totally different experience, and I accept all the limitations of vinyl as just one of those things. S. -- http://audiopages.googlepages.com |
