Just 'restored' a tape I made of Petula Clark Live in London from the Beeb. its actually quite a good recording, none of this squashed dynamic radio 2 do these days. Anyway, can anyone tell me when this was put out? I need to label the cd! Brian It was broadcast on Friday Night is Music Night on 15th December. The year was any of 2006, 2000, 1995, 1989. Don't know which year, but they all had 15th December fall on a Friday. Friday Night is Music Night! Gosh, that brings back memories:-) Is it still running? When I was a nipper it used to be Sydney Torch conducting the BBC Concert orchestra, with two guest singers - Adele Leigh was often one of them - plus a military band. The Coldstream Guards and Royal Signals were always my favourites:-) Halcyon days! Iain, if you want my own opinion - the 'wireless' is still far and away the best 'entertainment source' of them all! It was good then (very) and it ain't too bad now It was brilliant then: Journey Into Space, The Goons, The NDO, Hancock's Half Hour, etc etc. Iain |

I think they had recordings of about a dozen songs, all sounding identical, which they played in a different order every Sunday. "Sing Something Simple - As Cares Go By" Wasn't that it? Cliff Adams singers with a concertina! They don't make 'em like that any more. Even nostalgia is not what it use to be:-) Iain |

Sorry, I couldn't stand 'em, but Journey Into Space was *brilliant* - there's been nothing to touch it ever since!! |

Still have some ancient tapes that include the bits the BBC censored in later years. Although the age and source means many of them have beat whistles from adjacent MW broadcasts! Must get around to transcribing the tapes sometime... Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. I noticed that Radio 7's versions of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' were a minute or so shorter than the original. I must compare the two some time to see if it was censored or just had the boring bits cut to fit the time available. -- Eiron. |
