Yup. You're a pain.

Only because the truth hurts people who base their lives on lies.

You must be in great pain then Amy.

These cans are used in with a prof CD recorder,.
I have yet to see one of those with a mini jack
output.
Then you've never seen a Tascam TASCAM CD-RW4U, just
one of several with mini jack headphone output that
comes to mind because I've used one a great deal.

http://i.ebayimg.com/22/!Bi6SSDQBGk~$(KGrHqYOKjoEsmq8HEwCBLRQ67my5g~~_35.G IF
The Tascam TASCAM CD-RW4U
has a _quarter-inch_ jack socket
marked "phones" as both the picture,
in the link which you provided, and the
operations manual, clearly show.
I love it when someone tries to tell me from a picture
what I know from real life.

I love it doubly when they cite the device's
operations manual:
http://www.tascam.com/i-877-232-128-0-BFB3E795.pdf which states on
page 14 in the call out for item 15:
"Use a standard pair of stereo headphones, equipped
with a 3.5 mm plug, with this jack."

Now Iain, which part of the metric system converts 3.5
mm to 0.25 inch? Is that a *special* metric system
that you have in Finland? LOL!

Is the sort of smartarse remark I refer to in my other
recent post - those which Amy can dish out quick enough
but can't himself get without squealing and hollering
about the *unfairness* of it all!

The technical acquisitions manager at Swedish
Broadcasting told me as follows: The mini jack is not
a prof standard. Quarter inch, 6.3mm is used for
headphone outputs on all professional CD recorders. This certainly is
true
of all those I have seen and used, and am likely to use
in the forseeable future. You can see this clearly on
the pics of the Tascam.

I take his word against Arny's any day:-)

Iain, this is not about my word. It is about Tascam's,
as cited in detail above.

So you're saying that Tascam is not to be trusted to
know their own equipment?

Unbelievable were it not you, Iain. :-(

Extract from the Tascam manual linked to by Amy above

"Supplied accessories snip

1/4” to 3.5mm stereo headphone adapter
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

rest of accessories snipped"

Note that another item on the same page states that the headphone jack is
3.5 mm.

So that would be the adaptor you need to use a 3.5mm mini
jack with the Tascam's 1/4" output jack then.

Note that even an independent source that likes to be critical of me has
pointed out that the headphone output jack on the Tascam CD-RW4U is indeed
3.5 mm. Laurence gets points for at least telling the truth while it hurts
him to do so.

Interesting to note the depths of deceit that Combs has descended to, while
libelously accusing others. Obviously, he's trying to distract the forum
from his own bad behavior. Can anybody remember his last audio-related post?

You call that 'discussing'?

Except by daft ****s of course.

And your comment was sensible? I thought it just a lame attempt at a joke.
But if you say it was serious, so be it.

Default Prof CD recorders

Unfortunately, in this case Arny seems to be correct - according to
Tascam's manual online at any rate. Twice, the headphone jack is
mentioned as being 3.5mm.

The machine is supposed to be designed for pro
applications. Mini jack is not a pro connector.

This particular model is obsolete, replaced, according to Tascam
again, by the BB-1000CD. An interesting product. Only of use in a
niche application I think, but for that application, just what is
needed.

Isn't that a field recorder with built-in mics?

It is odd that the demand for pro level real-time
CD recorders was not sufficient to encourage more
manufacturers to build them. The new Studer model that
was suposed to supercede the D741 (many of which are
still in service) never got past field tests, and the few
facilities that had them on loan, and wanted to purchase,
were asked to return them after evaluation.

The earlier D741 is at:
http://www.studer.ch/products/product.aspx?pid=60

In the EU, the excellent British HHB is something
of a standard in mastering suites and post production
facilities. They are seen everywhere, and do, of course
have a proper 1/4" headphone jack:-)
