It's rather sad one of those here who claims such
experience demonstrates an extremely narrow view of even
the little part of the industry he works in.

I see the another funny thing - Kitty pretending to be able to be a
judge of hands on experience. Looking at the mics he has for sale, it
appears that he is no better a judge of hands-on experience than he is
of equipment to go hands-on with! ;-)

He loves single driver horn speakers so I suppose that sets the
guidelines. Most found those lacking some 50 odd years ago.

Agreed - and most of us moved beyond our dependence on tubes about 10 years
after that. We also moved beyond vinyl about 15 years after we scrapped our
tubed equipment (other than CRTs).

I have no problems with people who entertain themselves with old technology.
I have a close friend with an operational Ford Model A. But, he's wise
enough to not try to BS any of us that it is a superior motor car.

Then there are Kitty and Iain... :-(

Ay oop, Poochie's in there as usual! :-)

He needs to inform these people:

http://fullrangedriver.com/singledriver/drivers.html

Most of them are still busily manufacturing 'simgle drivers' for (mostly)
'horns' - the fools obviously don't know there's no longer any demand for
them!!

LOL!

What a loser!

No, bugger that, I'm trying to *uncollect* them!

Sold one mic (Oktava - flew out the door), two to go, but I suspect I'll end
up keeping the ribbon....

That wouldn't be Kitty - to start out with something decent. Has to
re-invent the wheel every time.

They're certainly 'LOL' ing all the way to the bank while there are still
those gullible enough to believe such things.

I saw just the thing, a month or two back, a dinky
Neve, 12 into 2 , probably no more than 1m
in width, it dated from the 70's. Pristine, down to
the polished wood front bar. Everyone here should
have one.-)

I posted a link in my previous post to illustrate
the point. Up to now, David seems to find it
impossible to accept that the technical requirements
and listener expectations for a big band recording
are totally different to a classical project.

This is understandable.

Talking about it, and actually doing it to meet the
requirements of professional producers, clients,
musicians, and discerning listeners are two very
different things:-)

Exactly. For ages, the Googlers, cut & pasters and yappers here banked on

As I said earlier:

If you listen to the finest live or studio big band
recordings from the mid fifties onwards, Ellington,
Basie, Kenton,Woody Herman Ted Heath etc,
(Ellington At Newport 1956 is a perfect example)
you will find they are all multi mic. Ask yourself
why, if a simple pair alone would suffice.

It all probably seems so easy and straightforward
to someone like David.

But things are rarely what they seem.

Why did Charlie Parker practice 15 hrs a day?
After all, you only have to blow down the sharp
end and twiddle your fingers:-)

Iain
