Celef Loudspeakers

Hello everyone, I have a pair of Celef Loudspeakers but I don't know much
about them apart from the excellent sound they make.

I have searched the web with no conclusive results, I think they may have
turned into ProAc or was it Celestion and Kef - Cel - ef.

Can anybody shed some light on the history of this brand?

many thanks

Note that they ran in parallel for some time through the '80s, ProAc
being the 'upmarket' end of the same product range, made in the same
factory in Thirsk Road, Borehamwood. Celefs were perhaps best known
for their resistive port loading, using lots of drinking straws
stuffed into the port to increase viscous drag. They used KEF and
Audax drivers.

I think I'm right in saying that after the ProAc Tablette series was
introduced in the mid '80s, the Celef brand was dropped as being an
unnecessary confusion.

I'm in front of a pair of ProAc Studio 2s which have the drinking
straw attachment. I must look for the right tweeters some day - I've
replaced both several times with whatever fitted the hole, from
Maplins :-) They still sound pretty good with the wrong hf units.
