Guide price for a pair of Kef 104s?
An imminent house move means the pair of Kef 104s are 'no longer required'. These are teak with black fret, and date from 1976. If I advertise these in the local rag, what sort of price should I ask? What sort of price might they go for? The veneer isn't perfect, but it isn't that bad either, but the fret is beginning to 'go'. Any pointers gratefully received. TF |

Monitor ebay for similar stuff, add 30 percent when you advertize a local sale to have room for a bit of bargain pressure and to allow for the risk factor component in an ebay price. Something KEF of similar vintage and "grade" was sold there recently. Here in Denmark I'd say DKK 1200 for the pair - if someone really really wanted it DKK 2000, that would be around 160 Euro, but try 200 Euro since they are "classic vintage KEF", ie. something that Raymond Cooke himself probably was involved in designing. Verify that as probable or improbable on the KEF web site before making the claim since a buyer might do just that .... no fun in having made an unsustatainable sales claim, making sustainable claims is better for bargaining. Finding a proper polish/oil or whatever to shine the wood up is prolly good for the price since they will look less "tired" when photographed. Yes, a phone call to KEF for a suggestion may be a good idea so as to be able to claim having used manufacturers suggested polish/oil/whatever. The actual "correct price" is the one that can be agreed on .... TF Kind regards Peter Larsen |
