here's a funny thing

had all my cd collection ripped to WMP in WMA lossless and a new gizmo
bought recently did not play WMA lossless. Rather than convert them I backed
them up and then proceeded to rip them again using WAV lossless format. All
looked fine and my old gizmo played them perfectly. However, the new gizmo
found loads of unknown artists, albums, etc. Upon investigation I found that
although all looked OK in WMP when I looked at the folders via Windows
Explorer all the 1st lines showed, unknown artist, song etc. I had used
autoplay. So I re-ripped the 1st song on each album after first deleting it
from the WMP and computer and now it's OK. Subsequent [new] CD's ripping
manually is OK. Did this happen because WAV is not "liked" by WMP?

No, it was the autoplay I fink. WMP has started ripping the 1st track
before it has found the album info online and has no idea what to call
it and so defaults to unkown. By the time it starts on the subsequent
tracks it has found the info and they are labelled correctly.

I use WMP and always rip manually so I can check the info before it
rips as the cd database that WMP accesses is pretty hopeless,
especially for classical music or obscure albums.
