NAS with spdif out?
I'm back on the music storage/player thing and keep going round and round in
circles. Basically, what I want is a NAS with built in web based music player and digital stereo out. Does such a thing exist? I know you can get media players but I don't need or want any video playing options and I don't want dolby 5.1 digital out, I want stereo digital out to feed my DAC. I've looked at the squeeze box options, the PC options and pretty much every other option but they all do more than I'm asking. Then there's the Linn/Naim options that cost thousands which I can't afford. The closest thing is a media centre like the ones from Sumvision, but they are all video based, get very bad reviews and very little info on the digital out signal they produce. Can anyone help? I would like to do this for as little money as possible (obviously) and would like about 1TB of storage. Thank you -- David www.waterfalls.me.uk |

Does such a thing exist? Apologies if you've previous explained this and I've missed (or forgotten) that, but: Why not use the NAS to hold the files and just use a suitable computer or other device to play them? FWIW I'm currently just using outboard dacs with computers to play the files. But I'm interested in the Squeezebox Touch as it should play from either a server or from a directly attached memory/device. Does that do more than you require? Afraid I can't immediately suggest a solution to your question, but I'm not sure I've fully understood your actual requirement or why the methods I've used would not suit you.
