I tried to reply to Bob Latham and got refused with the reason 'header too long' being given on a number of occasions and 'duplicate message' on others. Nothing has/had been changed or is out of the ordinary on this machine! My reply to Bob was along the lines that the cheap USB decks (includes a not so cheap Denon model, I believe) would be well up to creating a maybe somewhat 'lesser' copy of the music for on the move; I would not need a cdr replacement for occasions when I would actually play the LP. Also to add I don't have any problem with Linn decks. |

The comment about my Linn LP12/Ittok wasn't aimed at you, more the puritans who don't seem to understand that it is possible to prefer something that isn't perfect to that which supposedly is. Where on earth do you get the idea that those of us who prefer CD are "puritans"? Compared to LP CD is cheaper, easier to get hold of, easier to store and play. Furthermore it doesn't require so much care in handling and is usable in portable and car players. Compared to all that LP would have to be significantly better in performance terms to be worth bothering with. Given that it's actually worse there's no contest IMO. David. |

I don't use music on the move much Keith but I am looking towards getting my music on a NAS box and an ethernet connection to some reader that gives spdif out to feed my Arcam AV8. OK. No worries, I didn't take the comment personally - my remark meant quite simply I'm not a Linn-basher and although I don't use Linn myself I've got no problem with anyone who does and/or is enthusiastic about it! |

I see what you are driving at, and if CDs were a lot more expensive and less convenient than LPs, and the ONLY reason for prefering them was the cleaner, less coloured sound then he might have a point. I happily admit to prefering the less coloured sound and lack of background noise of the CD; and if I went to a lot of trouble and expense to get it then maybe, just maybe, the term "puritan" might be justified. But since I don't have to it isn't, quite the contrary in fact. I would never describe the sound from a CD as "pure", an undistorted sine wave is "pure", but it ain't music! David. |

Whilst some may be purer than others, no-one gets a totally 'pure' sound. Then there's the room.... ;-) |
