I don't either, too many adverts, while Five Live has too many
interruptions for "news".

It seems to sound a lot better on DAB, the same goes for BBC 'Five
Live', this is with my Pure 'One' after going into the menu and
setting the Dynamic Range Control (DRC) to zero, but not all DAB sets
have this option. I have read that non-BBC stations don't give you the
option, they compress the audio as for FM before it gets to the
transmitter.

Modern AM transmitters have built-in compression and distortion, to
minimise energy use, except that this often makes them unlistenable.
