NP: PF 'Obsured By Clouds' (vinyl, of course ;-)

Have a go at this. Not all of Floyd, of course, but I would have
enjoyed being there.

Yes, well that is pure gold and what a coincidence - I had just pulled my
'Wish You Were Here' album (playing now) when I saw your post. A pinnacle
for both acoustic guitar and saxophone.

And yes, I would have loved to have been there!

Amazing how little it takes to create magic. A pair of consummate
musicians is all.

I'm afraid it looked sounded more like a demonstration in virtuosity than a
musical performance to me. Whilst I don't doubt the virtuosity of either
musician the actual result left me unmoved. Where was the tune?

David.

Ok, it's Sunday and still very early so I will make allowances, but...
what? That is probably one of the best known tunes in rock history. It
is in the head of every member of the audience. This performance was a
sketch of the tune with decoration. This was a knowledgable audience
which was able to contribute the meat from its imagination. They could
never give a performance like this at, say, Earls Court or the O2.

I'm afraid that if you were unmoved by it, what was missing was what
you were expected to bring to it. You have to appreciate it in its
context - intimate setting and audience up close.

That was of course the last good Pink Floyd album.
And the worst PF track until then was 'Corporal Clegg',
when they were trying (and failing) to sound like the Beatles.

Has anyone seen 'More' or 'La Vallée'?

Amazing co-incidence. We were listening to the Beatles'
"White Allbum" last night after sauna. It's a while since
I heard it last, and far better than I remember it (probably
due to having heard so much mediocre pop music
in the meantime)

'Twas ever so.

A bit before my time. but imagine
being at the performance in 1762
where WA Mozart, just six years old, played
with his sister Nannerl, not much older, at the
court of the Elector of Bavaria.

Yes. I don't listen to modern pop music but I am aware enough of it to
realise how good the Beatles were, even though I wasn't a particilar fan of
theirs at the time!
