But that what this group does - try anything to do with
the enjoyment of 'hifi' per se and the sounds you get
from it and it soon gets ****ed on by a small group of
smartarses* who think they have got the all the answers
'in the numbers' and who start braying 'you can't alter
the laws of physics' or somesuch.

Contrary to your peculiar beliefs Keith, almost everybody these days
manages to enjoy hifi without messing with tubes or vinyl.

It is no belief of mine that they do - you 'guessers' should try *asking*
once in a while and inject a little *accuracy* into your posts
occasionally....

You seriously think the majority of enthusiasts mess with valves and vinyl?

Think you need to get out more.

A breakthrough!! He finally asks a question instead of *guessing* and
getting it all wrong!

Answer: Depends what you mean by 'enthusiasts', but in the small circle of
half a dozen or so local 'audio enthusiasts' I know, valves and vinyl
incidence is almost 100%. One of them only has an EAR valve phono stage, the
others all have valve amps and, I have stated here recently, all of them
play vinyl records.

I don't count people with a stack of impressive hifi that rarely gets
switched on as 'enthusiasts'.

Think you need to get out more.

So do I....

Perhaps you need to widen your circle, then.

What for? Meet new and exciting people who *don't* use valves and/or vinyl?

Priceless!

(I am *staggered* by the way your mind works! :-)

Others might be even more 'staggered' by your logic.

You seek out 'friends' who have the same beliefs in things that interest
you. Therefore all that share your interests no matter where must also
share your beliefs.

I'm even more staggered by your arse-about-face 'logic' - try the wild idea
that it was the *common interest* that drew us together:

I first met one of the 'circle' when buying motorcycles. He was then a hifi
enthusiast with 7 (if not 9) boxes of Cyrus SS stuff and 'normal' speakers.
He now has a pair of handmade 300B SETs and Lowther 'horn' speakers. after
hearing my kit. I bought a pair of IMF TLS80s from his colleague - see here,
with both my Lenco decks, a Fidelio speaker, a Chinese 300B SET amp, my 2A3
SET homebrew amp and a top of the range Technics 3000 SS amp:

'Eclectic' or what? :-)

The other members of the circle I mostly met through the local hifi shop
who, in fact, conspired to keep two of us apart for as long as possible as
we were apparently buying each other's cast-offs via the shop's then active
secondhand section! One of the circle I met through this newsgroup and
another I met through the World Audio Design forum.

That do you?

(Older, lifelong 'non hifi' friends are scattered far and wide now and it's
quite possible I won't see them again!)

Understand how it works now?

This is common among people who are frankly, less smart and/or insecure.
They crave reinforcement.

Smart people try to find people who don't exactly agree with them, but do
know how to act civilly.

More makey-up **** - I don't *seek out* anybody.

And quote bonding/comforting crap like 'you canna beat the laws of physics'
all the time.

That lets you off then, don't it? :-)

Tee-hee. I'd not expect to make 'friends' from those who habituate a Hi-Fi
shop. Most likely nutcases. But each to his own.
