Quad service
Hello,
Do folks have any recent experience of Quad (Huntingdon) service since they became IAG? I will phone them about my Quad 44 which could use a "tune-up" after 22 years or so. They do not answer emails to the address given on their web site. Amazingly my ESL 63s of similar vintage still seem very good (but of course my ears are that much older too!) Anyway, no audible distortion and thay remain crisp and seem well balanced still. But they have never been driven very hard. Horror story of the day: the father of a friend who decided that his ESL63 speakers, still in perfect working order, took up too much room disposed of them in a skip. I am suffering PTSD after hearing this; they still fetch a good price. Any experience of Quad service much appreciated. Or even recommendations for alternative service agents for Quad. |

"Miguel" Do folks have any recent experience of Quad (Huntingdon) service since they became IAG? I will phone them about my Quad 44 which could use a "tune-up" after 22 years or so. ** Any competent audio tech should be able to give your Quad 44 a 22 year or 22,000 mile service. Amazingly my ESL 63s of similar vintage still seem very good (but of course my ears are that much older too!) Anyway, no audible distortion and thay remain crisp and seem well balanced still. But they have never been driven very hard. ** Never transport them anywhere - it will be the death if them if you do. Old ESL63s are as fragile as eggs. Horror story of the day: the father of a friend who decided that his ESL63 speakers, still in perfect working order, took up too much room disposed of them in a skip. I am suffering PTSD after hearing this; they still fetch a good price. ** Way more then they are sensibly worth, cos they will likely not survive the trip to a new owner's premises - unless it is within carrying range. No such issues with the old ESL57s. And I have owned both. ..... Phil |

Coincidently I recently listened to a pair of ESL57s (for the first ime in many years) and pondered if there had been any real improvement in speaker design in 50 years. ;-) -- *Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder... A colleague once found a perfectly good Nagra in a skip - all it needed was a new fuse. Amazing what people will throw away, here I often see seemimngly good furniture in the skip that could be given to a charitable organisation who will collect for free. Miguel |

Yes, I've just had my 66 CD and 66 Tuner repaired by them. I contacted them by email - got a response with 4 hours and took them in. They were back with me in approx. 10 days (but they did say this can vary according to their workload). They called me to discuss what work was need. Very happy with the result. -- Right, you lot start coding, I'll go and see what they want. Andrew |

I have also always found them very helpful. I've reported in another thread my recent experiences with 2805 speakers. (Still working fine after they sent the spare parts to arrive at 9am on the day after I contacted them!) Some years ago I also had a regulator IC fail in a CD67. Again that was repaired quickly. Slainte, Jim Many thanks everyone for this information - glad to see that they are still so good. My last repair with them was of my 606 and that is how they performed then, pre IAG takeover. I will get in touch with them about my 44. Miguel |
