The key variables appear to be power supply, DAC and

IME CD
players can sound *different* - others on this NG might be
able to
explain why.

They all sound the same. It's the interconnects that make
the
difference.

Now now, don't be naughty. You know perfectly well it is the
orientation of the mains fuse.

You have to match the Qi between the two players being compared
and eliminate any Yin/Yang imbalance.
And it helps to sit inside an Orgone Box so you can't see which
player is in use.

I have a Mission Cyrus 1 amp, that has been working very nicely for the
last 24 years (what a good investment that was, back in 1988).

I need a new CD player, and I would like to get one of the shoe-box
sized Cyrus ones to match the amp, mainly for aesthetic reasons.

Which model would be most appropriate? I'll buy it second-hand, and
would prefer to spend £200 at the absolute maximum.

I have a Cyrus CD6 that you could have for £200.
It's boxed and as far as I remember pretty immaculate. As you are a regular
on URCM I'd be willing to post to you and let you try it first but you'd
have to pay the return postage if you weren't happy with it.
It's not the CD6s, it's the one with the tray.
If you are interested let me know and I'll post you some pictures.
