Freecycle
This is on my local group:-
***********
Stereo - Consonance Audio Reference 880 valved integrated amp and
Reference 2.2 CD player
I'm offering these items through Freecycle rather that selling them
because while they are in working order now they have been repaired in the
past. They are probably only of value to a hobbyist of valved audio
equipment. The items are twelve years old. The integrated amp weights 35kg!
************
Don't know what they are, but sound expensive new.

Crikey. Could be a windup, I suppose.

I hope you replied, offering to take it away.
I once just missed a pair of Tannoy speakers on Freecycle.

It doesn't look very good, but you might be able to redesign it properly.
This is amusing:
"Running in
Your Consonance equipment will take a considerable time to run-in before
it performs at its
best. The duration varies, but under some conditions you will find that
the sound continues to
improve for as much as five weeks. Better and more consistent
performance will be achieved
if the system is left switched on for long periods. However, please take
note that all electronic
equipment can be damaged by lightning and should not be left on for long
periods
unattended."

I read this as "The longer you use it, the more you'll get used to the
quality of the sound".

** The specs suggest this is very much an "audiophool" amp.
Four 6550s per channel delivering only 70 watts rms at some unspecified THD
is a dead giveaway.
Taking all the specs into account, it seems to be a class A, UL design with
zero feedback.
Make a pretty nice stereo guitar amp - IMO.

No - I've already got too much stuff. And I'd guess he was swamped in the
rush.

It's amazing what some people 'throw out'. I put together a very nice
sound system for a local charity drop in centre from Freecycle.

A few years back a friend of mine picked up a Michell Reference
Hydraulic turntable (in blue lacquer finish) from the local tip. Cost
him £120 to get it restored (new bearings & motor and rewired tonearm)
plus £55 for a new cart. The guy at the hi-fi shop where he had it
restored offered him £450 for it in the condition it was in when he
found it.
Still, I did quite well out of it as he sold me his Rega Planar 3 with
RB300 tonearm for £100. Again, £55 for a new Ortofon 510 cart and I
ended up with a pretty decent turntable.
(Maybe this should followup to ura.vinyl?)
