So it really depends on wether you might use any of them again. -- *Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Small caps are the most vulnerable. When left uncharged for long periods, a chemical reaction takes place called "depolarising" that both reduces the cap's vale and increases its capacitance. If this happens to a reservoir cap,it may overheat and explode when the item is switched on. Depolarising can be prevented by running the equipment on a regular basis. More importantly, running equipment for a few hours warms it up and drives out any moisture that has collected. ..... Phil |

Phil The equation I use as a rule of thumb for calculating electrolytic lifetime is Life = L1 *(Vo/Vr)*2^((Tm-(Ta-delta T))/10) L1 is the specified lifetime. Vo and Vr are the operating and rated voltages. Tm is the maximum rated temperature, Ta is the local ambient temp and delta T is the internal rise caused by ripple current. Applied to a single cap in a single bit of kit, this is essentially meaningless, but over a few thousand it will give you something close to the lower 3 Sigma point. d --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

No its not, there are three. Technics very large one used by talking
newspaper, Sharp budget deck, and I also have a Denon here with three heads that seems to always be suffering from speed issues due to poor grip on its capstans. None are usable by me as I cannot see the meters any more. Using an old dbx technics to convert some recordings to cd. The denon also has a plastic washer missing from its feed spool as eject eventually knocks it off, its been through three. The equaliser is a JVC sea10, with five ganged sliders. the rogers is a cadet 2, with supposedly 12.5 watts a channel, but it sounds a lot louder to me. the front din socket is worn, it needs a new scratch and rumble filter set of caps, the mains lead is damaged but not dangerous, the on off switch inside the volume pot is held together with sticky tape. the two rear power sockets are as standard and dangerous of course. It has two phono input plugs one normal magnetic, one set for the deram ceramic. I don't think elf and safety were as prominent in those days..:-) Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active Remember, if you don't like where I post or what I say, you don't have to read my posts! :-) "Jim Lesurf" wrote in message ... I know, I've been looking for some. :( I did have one ages ago. Competent enough amp, although rather noisy by modern standards. But totally outclassed by loads of later budget transistor amps. I can more understand using Quad or Radford etc valve amps on show as a talking point. ;-) -- *If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
